Also known as rhytidectomy, facelift or facial rejuvenation surgery is aimed at removing excess facial skin and correct the facial angles can be found harmed by the effects of gravity or both skin aging and bone.
Over the years the skin of the face is relaxed due to loss of elasticity, sun exposure, the effect of gravity and the effect of some gestures repetitive facial expression. This creates an excess of skin that is loose, enhancing the folds or wrinkles and lost facial contour angles. On the other hand also note reabsorption of facial bones to spend on the jaw and cheekbones less prominent and encouraging the sloughing.
The facelift does not seek to stop the facial aging process, just pretend disguise to understand the elements of aging. May be needed to remove excess skin, refine lines (wrinkles) to tighten skin and muscles of the face and recreate again right angles to the face. Since there may be bone resorption also may be required facial fillers, osteotomy (modifying the shape of the bone) or stent placement in areas like the chin.
There are different methods by which the incisions vary as the treatment area. There are three different areas: the front area including the eyelids in which the wounds were made in the scalp and eyelids, the cheeks area in the preauricular incisions that can go up behind the ear and cervical area in question from the wound in front of the ear and may need another incision in the crease under the chin. In some cases you may need incisions inside the mouth for the treatment of the area of the cheekbones and/or jaw. The areas to be treated will vary according to each individual patient.
The surgery lasts approximately 3-7 hours depending on the areas treated. It is possible to perform under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. Before deciding whether or not to undergo this surgery is necessary to think carefully about the expectations you have and discuss them with your plastic surgeon since one can not expect miracles but significant improvements. It is important to understand that the appearance is much improved but this does not mean going back years ago.
